Expert Secrets Review: Is It Worth Reading or Overhyped?
Updated August 10, 2026
Our rating
Expert Secrets killed the “who am I to teach this?” voice in my head. I stopped waiting to feel qualified and started publishing (that’s how Funnel Secrets got built). The story frameworks do the selling now, so I never pitch. For $9.95, it’s the cheapest thing I’ve bought that changed how I make money.
You know your stuff. That’s not the problem.
The problem is nobody’s paying for it.
Your friends keep saying “you should charge for this.” Cool. But friends don’t count as customers, and your Stripe account knows it. Meanwhile, some guy with half your knowledge just filled a webinar and bought a new camera setup with the profits.
And it gets worse the longer you wait:
- Every client hour you sell caps your income at whatever your calendar can hold
- Your content gets likes, hearts, and fire emojis… and zero buyers
- You sound like the other 10,000 experts in your niche
- You built the funnel, followed every tutorial, and it still doesn’t convert, because nobody ever taught you what actually makes a stranger pull out their card.
- You’ve already been burned by at least one guru course (the one gathering dust in your downloads folder)
So when a “free” book shows up promising to fix all of this, your scam radar starts screaming. Good, keep it on.
In this review, I’m going to share with you EXACTLY the principles you’ll learn inside the book, what I liked (and didn’t like), and whether it’s worth reading or just overhyped.
warning
Most reviews you’ve read are outdated. Expert Secret’s original edition contained around 60,000 words. Russell cut out about 20,000 words that didn’t serve readers well. Then he added almost 50,000 new words of content (It’s actually a new book).
Pros and Cons
PROS
CONS
Quick Verdict: Is Expert Secrets worth reading in 2026?
Yes, the Expert Secrets book is 100% worth reading.
It’s $9.95 for proven strategies from an expert who grew the company from ZERO to $100M in 5 years.
Inside the book, you’ll learn:
- The FAST and ETHICAL way to become an expert (or leader), grow a massive audience, get raving fans, and sell your frameworks.
- Master the art of converting online visitors into lifelong customers by using storytelling, and how to weave them into your ads and funnels.
- One-to-many selling, so you can deliver a script you rehearsed, in your own room, on your schedule, which means no more improvising under pressure while someone silently stares at you.
I know it sounds like I’m overselling this book, but I’m really not.
The frameworks work so well that Brunson’s followers built an entire culture around them. Critics call it “cult-like.” Say what you want, but nobody builds a cult around a book (or software) that doesn’t deliver.
And no, it won’t turn you into another FAKE guru you’d hate. The book’s whole approach is selling through stories instead of hype. You never have to introduce yourself with “Hi, I’m an expert.”
So, what about drawbacks?
Buying the book drops you straight into Russell Brunson’s funnel. Expect a steady stream of emails pitching his other products. And nearly every example comes from his own company. To some readers, that makes the whole thing feel like a 355-page ad for ClickFunnels.
When you compare the price and value you get, Expert Secrets is still a great book for anyone who wants to earn from their knowledge, build a following, and grow an online business.
Who should read Expert Secrets, and who should skip it?
You’ll love Expert Secrets if:
Not sure your field counts? Fitness, dog training, finance, gardening, real estate. If people pay to learn what you know, you have an expert business waiting.
You won’t love Expert Secrets if:
Still here? Then let’s look at what’s actually inside.
What Is The Expert Secrets Book About?
Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson is a playbook that teaches entrepreneurs how to turn specialized knowledge into a business, build a loyal following, and convert online visitors to lifelong customers by mastering the art of persuasion and storytelling.

First published in 2017, the second edition was rewritten in 2020 and runs 355 pages across 4 sections:
- Creating your movement
- Creating belief
- “10X Secrets”: One-to-Many Selling
- Becoming your dream customer’s guide.
The big idea? Stop seeing your business as a product, service, or offer. See it as a movement of people you’ve been called to serve.
Here’s why it works…
People come into your funnels looking for a solution to their problems. By positioning yourself as an expert, you’re learning how to tell your story in a way that gets people to act, then guide them up your value ladder. By the end, they get the result they came looking for.
I’ve read a dozen books on sales, personal branding, and copywriting. Expert Secrets is the only one that weaves them into a simple road map you can follow to build and grow a business online.
It’s a 2nd book inside Russell Brunson’s Secrets Trilogy series, which includes:
- Dotcom Secrets: The playbook about how to build sales funnels online.
- Expert Secrets: The “art” behind successful funnels, helping you convert leads (people through your funnels) into dream customers.
- Traffic Secrets: Evergreen strategies to drive a consistent flow of people (traffic) into your funnels.
I know what you might be thinking: “Another marketing guru selling a book about marketing.”
Fair. So let’s look at his track record before we go any further.
Who Is Russell Brunson (And Should You Trust Him)?
Russell Brunson co-founded ClickFunnels in 2014 with Todd Dickerson, and it grew from 0 to over $100M in sales in just 5 years.
Unlike other gurus who make money by teaching people how to make money, he actually did what he preached.
Before ClickFunnels, Russell Brunson sold everything from shakes and supplements to coupons, t-shirts, coaching, books, consulting, technology services, and software.
In 2005, he sold DVDs teaching people how to build a potato gun. Ten-dollar info product, with the parts kit as the upsell. That’s a guy learning belief and offer structure on a product nobody needs, in a market nobody was in. He made his first million within a year of leaving college.
He hit top ranking in several network marketing companies, won a Ferrari, and pulled 1.5 million leads in six weeks. Network marketing doesn’t run on product. It runs on getting strangers to follow you somewhere.
Today, ClickFunnels has over 100,000 active users, and the culture around it is loud enough that critics call it cult-like.
He built a following of over a million entrepreneurs, popularized the concept of the sales funnel, and helped over 10,000 entrepreneurs change their business live.
FAST FACT
As of 2026, Russell Brunson has handed out 2,841 Two Comma Club awards to people who made $1 million with ClickFunnels. Another 432 crossed $10 million and earned the Two Comma Club X. And 144 passed $25 million for the Two Comma Club C. – Source
He also runs projects with Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, Grant Cardone, and Daymond John. When Tony Robbins puts his name next to yours, you’ve cleared a bar most marketers never get near.
Now the part most reviews won’t touch.
Plenty of sharp people find him exhausting. The energy is relentless. The stage presence is loud. Spend twenty minutes on Reddit, and you’ll find long-time ClickFunnels users who pay for the software every month and still can’t stand the character selling it.
I get it. I’ve winced at clips too.
But a script doesn’t care whether you like the guy who wrote it. You can find Russell exhausting and still run his frameworks to the bank. I know people doing exactly that.
So if he doesn’t qualify, who does?
What I Liked About Expert Secrets
1. Learn Storytelling and Webinar Selling From a Guy Who Closed $3M in 90 Minutes
Think about the last time YOU pitched something.
You spent weeks building the offer. You showed up. You talked for an hour. You hit “add to cart” on the last slide, and then you watched the number sit at zero.
A few “I’ll think about it.” A few polite thumbs up. Nobody buys.
So you blame the traffic, the price, or the market.
It’s almost never the traffic.
It’s the order you told the story in.
Most people pitch the product before the audience has any reason to want it. They stack features on a crowd that hasn’t been sold on the OUTCOME yet. The second the price lands, the room goes cold.
In 2018, Russell walked onto the stage at Grant Cardone’s 10X Growth Conference and closed $3 million in 90 minutes with one presentation. You can watch the video recorded below.
He may not be the world’s best storyteller or the #1 webinar guy alive. But he ran that script live, with millions on the line, and it held.
Expert Secrets hands you the exact script. Word for word, slide for slide, in the same sequence he used on that stage.
And before you say “I don’t do webinars”: neither did I. The book includes a 5-minute version built by Jaime Cross for her skin care company. It runs on a landing page, a video sales letter, or an ad. I’ve used it every week since.
You don’t have to invent a single thing. You just have to follow it.
2. Get Paid For What You Know Without Becoming a Fake Guru
But what if you’re not an expert in anything?
That’s the fear nobody says out loud: Who am I to teach anybody?
I had it too. I loved the idea of building something online. I just didn’t want to become the guy renting a Lamborghini on TikTok to sell courses about selling courses.
If you already have a skill worth sharing, Expert Secrets shows you how to put it in front of the people who need it.
If you don’t have one yet, it gives you 5 phases to build one:
- Phase #1 – The Dreamer (it starts with a spark): You try a ton of stuff (Dropshipping, affiliate, learn a new language, lose weight, whatever). You’re hunting for the ONE topic you’re interested in and go deep on it.
- Phase #2 – The Reporter: You interview other experts, so you can learn everything about your topic from multiple points of view.
- Phase #3 – Building Your Own Frameworks: Your knowledge isn’t enough. Now, you turn what you’ve learned into a repeatable process that belongs to you. You start to create your own framework and test it yourself.
- Phase #4 – Work For Free Serving Your Future Dream Clients: Try your framework you built on others to perfect it and make sure it produces the same results. Besides, you can collect real proof and testimonials.
- Phase #5 – Becoming the Expert: Start leading people to their destination.

It takes months. Maybe a year.
But by the time you get there, you have receipts.
You never have to introduce yourself as an expert. Your clients do it for you.
3. The Book Is Beginner-Friendly, Even If You Have Zero Marketing Experience
Russell Brunson explains every strategy, framework, and new concept in plain language, then shows you exactly how to make it work in your own business.
Remember, Expert Secrets was written to help you get paid for what you already know.
Maybe you’re a dog trainer, a guitar teacher, a fitness coach, an insurance advisor, or a lawyer. You already know how to get people the result they came for.
You just have no idea how to sell it.
Every concept comes with a story or a real-life example, so you’re never left staring at theory.
But what I love most are the doodles.
Imagine it’s three weeks after you finished the book and you need to run the Epiphany Bridge script.

You don’t have to hunt for the chapter. The doodle pops into your head, and the whole framework comes back with it.
I have no idea WHY it works. I just know it does (at least for me).
4. Ridiculously Cheap for What It Replaces
Imagine being able to get a $3000 workshop on successful webinars for only $12.95.
That’s not my line. That’s a verified Amazon buyer, and he was only talking about the webinar chapters.

And he was only talking about the webinar topic.
Buy it from the official website, and the book itself is free. You just cover shipping: $9.95.
Now, “free plus shipping” sounds like a catch. It is, sort of, and I break the whole funnel down in the next section.
But the catch costs you emails, not money. The only way you lose here is if the book sits unopened.
What I Didn’t Like About Expert Secrets
You Are Inside a Funnel Right Now
The book is free, and you pay $9.95 for shipping. That isn’t generosity. That’s step one of Russell Brunson’s own value ladder.
Sit with how well that’s designed for a second.
In DotCom Secrets, Russell teaches the Value Ladder. Then he uses the books themselves as the bottom rung of his. He teaches the trap by putting you in it.
You buy a $9.95 book and the offers start before the checkout page finishes loading:
- The audiobook
- The live recording of the Expert Secrets event
- A course bundle
- The Selling Online Challenge
- And eventually ClickFunnels at $97/month

It doesn’t stop at checkout either. The moment you enter your email, you’re on the list. Expect webinar invites, challenge launches, new offers, and “one time only” deadlines, for as long as you stay subscribed.
Some of those emails are genuinely good copy worth studying. But if you wanted a free book and nothing else, that isn’t the deal you signed.
Once you notice the machine, you can’t un-notice it. Chapter by chapter, you start clocking it: The origin story that made you like him, the “secret” framed as forbidden knowledge, the case studies that all land at the same software.
Some people will hate this. I understand why.
But here’s where I landed. The strategies work whether or not you like being marketed to. I got pitched, I saw exactly HOW I got pitched, and I still walked away with scripts I use in my own business.
That’s a $9.95 education in real time.
2. Some Concepts Hold You Hostage to His Other Books
This is the one that actually annoyed me.
Russell introduces a concept, gets you nodding, then leaves you at the door. The Attractive Character and the Value Ladder both get named here and built out in DotCom Secrets.
The clearest example is Phase 2 of becoming an expert.
He tells you to become The Reporter. Go interview other experts. Great advice. Now try to actually DO it:
- How do you convince a busy expert to work with you?
- What goes in the email so a stranger replies?
- What do you ask on the show?
- What do you do with the recording afterward?
None of that is in this book. It’s in Traffic Secrets.
Same story with the webinar chapters. If you have zero traffic and zero list, they’re a Ferrari key with no car. The scripts are there. The people to run them on are not.
To be fair, the three books were designed as a trilogy. Expert Secrets is the message, DotCom Secrets is the funnel, Traffic Secrets is the people. This never hurt me, because I own all three.
But most people buy one. And if Expert Secrets is your one, expect moments where the book points at a door you can’t open yet.
So set your expectations now: It teaches you what to say and who to say it to, not how to reach them.
Fine with picking up the other two later? Buy it today. Want ONE book that takes you from zero to first sale? This isn’t it, and no book in the trilogy is.
3. The Examples Lean Heavily on ClickFunnels
Russell does pull case studies from all kinds of industries, from coaches and dentists to ecom sellers and local businesses.
But the stories he tells best are his own, and his own story IS ClickFunnels.
The screenshots come from his funnels, the wins come from his launches, and almost every piece of proof traces back to his company.
He isn’t pitching you on every page, and calling it spam would be unfair to a book that genuinely delivers on its promise.
Here’s the thing, though.
If you’re brand new to marketing, none of this will register. You’ll just see a guy with receipts, and the receipts will be impressive enough to keep you reading.
But if you’ve spent any real time in this game, your radar picks it up somewhere around chapter three.
You start reading a case study and catch yourself thinking: “Okay, but would this have worked without a $100M software company behind it?”
That’s where a lot of experienced readers land: This is a 355-page ClickFunnels ad.
The image below is an example.

Look at the ratings, and you’ll see the split.
Amazon sits at 4.7/5. Goodreads sits near 4.2/5, with a visible block of 1 and 2 star reviews, and almost all of them come from people who’ve been marketing for years.

I don’t think that’s what he set out to write, and honestly, when you build the software, you naturally have the most data and the cleanest receipts on the software.
But if you’ve been around the block, you’ll notice whose logo keeps showing up. And once you notice it, reading the rest the same way gets a lot harder.
None of that stopped me from running the frameworks. So let’s open the book.
What’s Inside Expert Secrets: Section-by-Section
The Expert Secrets 2nd Edition is organized into 4 sections:
- Section 1- Creating Your Movement: Attract your dream customers by finding your voice, telling your story, and positioning your offer as a new opportunity. This is where you build a tribe and give them a future-based cause.
- Section 2 – Creating Belief: Master story selling so you can break the false beliefs standing between your customer and the buy button, which raises the perceived value of your offer before price ever comes up.
- Section 3 – “10X Secrets”: One-to-Many Selling: The Perfect Webinar framework. You build one presentation that sells, then run it on a webinar, from a stage, or plugged straight into your sales funnel.
- Section 4 – Becoming Your Dream Customer’s Guide: Weave your presentation into different types of funnels and keep the whole thing running once it works.
They build on each other, so skipping ahead doesn’t work. You can’t sell to a movement you haven’t built yet.
Let’s start where Russell starts.
Section 1 – Creating Your Movement
Every movement starts with three pieces: An Expert/guide, a new opportunity, and a future-based cause.
So, the pattern looks like this: ”The expert offers someone a new opportunity, and then guides them to a result with a future-based cause.”
In this section, you’ll learn a step-by-step guide on:
- How to become an expert (5 phases): You STOP waiting to feel qualified and start acting like the guide your audience already needs
- How to create your own framework: Build your own system based on your knowledge or expertise, so people start quoting YOU as the brand of the framework.
- How to teach your framework: Step-by-step guide to teach your dream customers in a way that helps them achieve the result they want.
- Find your blue ocean: You’ll learn how to stand out from the competitive market by narrowing your niche.
- How to convert your audience into true fans
- Checklist of what you need to do right now.
This section hit me hard.
Before Expert Secrets, I felt terrified to share anything I knew. Even the free stuff. A voice in my head kept saying: “Who am I to call myself an expert? Plenty of people know way more than me.”
Here’s the line that shut that voice up for good: You don’t have to know more than everyone on the planet. You just have to stay one chapter ahead of the people you help.
Weird, right? I thought so too.
Then I looked at every skill I picked up over the years: gardening, cooking, the gym, Excel, web design. Almost nobody who taught me ranked as the best in the world. A few had zero certificates. Their advice still changed my life.
So I started Funnel Secrets and began sharing what I know about building funnels.
- Do I run the biggest funnel blog on the internet? Nope.
- Do I build the best funnels alive? Not even close.
- Do I hold a marketing degree? Ha. I studied engineering.
None of that stopped the traffic.
And once the traffic showed up, the audience followed. Readers started emailing me about funnels that leaked money at every step, and patching those leaks is now my favorite part of the week.
By the way, you become the expert by publishing, not by waiting until you feel ready. Either you write what you just learned, or you write what you wish someone had told you last year. Publishing doesn’t only build your audience, it also helps you find your voice, sharpen your message, and attract your dream customers.
Expert Secrets shows you what to do with all of it. Grab your copy here.
Section 2 – Creating Belief
Want to know why some offers sell themselves while yours needs a fight?
Perceived value.
The higher the perceived value of your offer is, the easier it will be to sell it. If your potential customers see your offer and feel it’s worth $1000, and you’re only selling it for $100, they will buy it every time.
So how do you get that number up without touching your price?
You tell a story. That’s what this section teaches, and Russell hands you two frameworks for doing it:
- The Epiphany Bridge: You retell the moment you discovered the thing, so the reader has your realization instead of hearing your conclusion
- The Hero’s Two Journeys: The outer journey is what you achieved, the inner one is who you became. The second is the one people buy

When I first read this section, I was stuck.
I knew the framework worked. The marketer I trust most runs it in every campaign he launches. But I had no clue which stories to tell. Half the time I stared at the page thinking, “I don’t have a story about this. I’ve never done anything worth telling.”
So I closed the book and skipped the whole section for years.
Then the 2nd Edition landed with an update that fixed it with the Four Core Stories.
- Your origin story with the new opportunity
- Vehicle framework story (how you learned or earned it)
- Internal beliefs story
- External beliefs story
Each one aims at a different objection. Now I know which story to pull for which wall the reader has up.
Did you know?
Russell can walk onstage and talk for hours without notes, at a moment’s notice. Not because he’s a natural. Because he built a Story Inventory first.
That’s my favorite tip in the section, and it solves the exact problem I had. Don’t hunt for a story when you need one. Build the stack before you need it.
You’ll write a pile of Epiphany Bridge stories, each one aimed at a different false belief.
I won’t sugarcoat it. This part is a grind, and it’s boring. But finish it once, and you never panic about what to say again.
Section 3 – One-to-Many Selling
Selling one person at a time has a ceiling, and you hit it FAST.
Section 3 blows that ceiling off. You get the exact presentation framework Russell used to pull in over $3 million in 90 minutes, and he calls it the Perfect Webinar.

Ignore the name for a second. It works on both webinars and selling on stage
Here’s why it holds up. Cold prospects don’t buy from a feature list. They buy after they meet you, believe you, and drop the story in their head that says “this won’t work for someone like me.” The framework walks your audience through all three in one sitting.
The Perfect Webinar Framework has three parts:
- The Big Domino
- The Three Secrets
- The Stack and Closes
The Big Domino is the part that rewired how I think about selling.
Most presentations try to make an audience believe many things. This one aims at a single belief: Your new opportunity is the key to the result they want most.
Knock that domino over, and the rest fall with it, which is a strange thing to watch happen. Price stops mattering. Timing, competitors, the “I’ll think about it” line, all of it goes down in the same direction.
FAST FACT?
Russell built an entire mini-course on this one framework. I broke it down in my Perfect Webinar Secrets review if you want the deeper version.
It sounds great, BUT “I don’t do webinars. I’ve never spoken on a stage in my life.”
Don’t worry, Russell includes a shorter version called the 5-Minute Perfect Webinar, originally built by Jaime Cross for her skin care company.
This mini version works great for ads, landing pages, video sales letters, and more. This means you collect webinar-level conversions from a market that would never register for one.
The higher the price point, typically the longer your presentation will need to be. Now you hold both a 90-minute version and a 5-minute version, so you can match the length to the offer instead of guessing.
Section 4: Becoming Your Dream Customer’s Guide
It’s so exciting when that final piece of knowledge clicks into place!
You’ve done an amazing job crafting your story and presentation, and now Section 4 will guide you on where to place them.
There’s a shift in thinking here that took me a while to get. The presentation is about storytelling your story (as a guide), but the funnels are about creating their journey, where they are the hero.
The best part is that Russell provides clear guidance on where each story or presentation fits:
- Your ads
- Email follow-up sequences
- Lead magnets
- Unboxing funnels
- Video sales letter funnels
- Product launch funnels
- Automated webinar funnels
You’ll also learn:
- How to test your presentation
- The webinar funnel framework
- The cheat sheet to structure your Perfect Webinar quickly
- How to weave your personality, stories, and frameworks into your value ladder
And no, you DON’T have to rebuild your entire marketing system.
Whatever you’re running right now stays. Your ads, your emails, your landing page, your offer. Nothing gets scrapped.
You just find the one spot where people drop off and fix the story there. Maybe it’s the opt-in page nobody fills out. Maybe it’s the email that gets opened and ignored. Russell shows you which story belongs in that exact spot, you swap it in, and you leave the rest alone.
And if you’ve already read Dotcom Secrets? This is where the two books snap together. You built the structure over there. Here you fill it with stories that actually move people. Same funnel, way better numbers.
Expert Secrets vs. DotCom Secrets Vs. Traffic Secrets: which should I read first?
Read Dotcom Secrets first if you’re starting from zero. It gives you a foundation for initial growth of your company online with sales funnels.
My recommended order:
- Dotcom Secrets
- Expert Secrets
- Traffic Secrets
Russell wrote each book in the Secrets Trilogy as a stand-alone playbook. You can technically start anywhere.

But in my experience, each one leans on the book before it. Read Expert Secrets, and you’ll run into concepts straight out of Dotcom Secrets. Traffic Secrets pulls from both.
That said, don’t let this stop you from grabbing Expert Secrets today. Russell explains the funnel ideas he’s referencing, so you won’t be lost. Reading Dotcom Secrets first just makes the ride smoother.
Both books are free plus shipping anyway. Order them together and read them in whatever order you feel like.
Beside Expert Secrets, I’ve also read and reviewed most of Russell Brunson’s books myself.
Final Verdict: Should You Buy Expert Secrets?
Expert Secrets book is worth reading. I ranked it as the top #4 marketing funnel book.
Russell Brunson took ClickFunnels from zero to $100M. He closed $3 MILLION in 90 minutes from one stage presentation. That script is printed in this book, word for word, slide for slide. And as of 2026, he’s handed out 2,841 Two Comma Club awards to people who cracked a million dollars running these frameworks.
For $9.95 ($19.95 Intl), you get:
- Exactly how to get paid for your knowledge or expertise
- Increase followers and turn them into true fans
- Create your own framework and teach your framework
- Tell stories in a way that guides potential customers into your value ladder and make more sales.
- Proven script for one-to-many selling (Perfect Webinar script)
- $609.95 in bonuses value
- Money-back guarantee

Yes, there are a lot of fair criticisms about the book, though. Upsells hit before checkout finishes loading; some concepts are not explained here, but in Dotcom Secrets instead, and the examples are heavily on ClickFunnels.
But overall, you can’t argue with the price. Expert Secrets sold over 100,000 copies, so there’s a higher chance your competitors already read it and are stealing all the traffic.
Grab the Expert Secrets book here. In the worst case, Russell refunds your shipping if you hate the book, and you don’t even mail it back.
You’ve nothing to lose at all.
